Maximum Memory that can be allocated to Virtual pc vms

Hi,

We are using virtual pc vms for software development (Vista as host with
Virtual PC 2007 installed). We would like to maximize allocation of memory
to virtual pc vms but the total memory that we can allocate so far is only
up to 3.5GB. We already tried to upgrade the machine to 8GB using Vista 64
bit but still no luck.

We installed Vista 64bit on 8GB memory machine, it can see total of usable
8GB memory but we can only allocate total of 3.5GB to virtual pc vms.

I know that we can only allocate maximum of 3.7GB PER VM as stated in
technet. But I cannot see any documentation that tells about the total
memory that can be allocated to virtual pc vms. Do you have any idea where
can I get such information?

Or can you suggest how we can maximize allocation of memory to virtual
machines? Say if I have 8gb memory on Vista 64 bit OS, I should be able to
use 6GB total to vms of virtual pc.

Any help that you can give will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
JoF

It should work. I have several 8GB machines and can run two 2 or 3GB
VMs concurrently.
Are you receiving an error message?
Do you have anything like Nero installed?

Hi JoF,

If the GuestVM is WindowsXP (32b versions), then even if you
could allocate more than 3.4GB, you would run into the
WindowsXP limit of 3.4GB.
