Trick VPC

I have a ThinkPad T60 with Vista Business preinstalled. I purchased the XP
recovery disks. I want to use the XP disks for my VPC. Unfortunately, the
way VPC virtualizes all hardware, I think my XP system install is having
troubles... I have installed 2 times and usually get a BSOD or other
problem.... never the usual login screen.

Any way to trick VPC to "show" the real hardware of my T60 so XP will
install?

Thanks for any tricks... or treats

Re: Trick VPC

There's no way to trick VPC to show the real hardware. VPC presents to the
OS a virtualized machine, hence the name: Virtual PC.

I'd also like to mention that using your recovery disks to install another
copy of the OS is a violation of the license agreement. To install a copy of
Windows under VPC you must have a separate license for it.

There is a product that I personally know nothing about, but i am told that
it will do that. The product name is "Xen".

Xen does not virtualize the host's hardware either. No VM software
virtualizes the host's hardware making a virtual copy of the hardware.
Also, Xen is a Linux-based hypervisor, it does not run on Vista.

My response was to the question of showing the real machine hardware.

But a Xen VM doesn't show real hardware, it is emulated, just like
VPC.
http://ian.blenke.com/xen/hvm/svm/vtx/qemu
"HVM hardware is emulated via a patched QEMU "device manager"
(qemu-dm) daemon running as a backend in dom0. There is no SCSI
emulation, only PIIX3 IDE (with some rudimentary PIIX4 capabilities),
Cirrus Logic or vanilla VGA emulated video, RTL8139 or NE2000 network
emulation, PAE, and somewhat limited ACPI and APIC support. Basically
the same devices available in QEMU 0.8.2 today (with a number of
patches for performance, etc)."

Which Xen doesn't, as Steve has explained...
