Vista - Vista Home Premium

I am running Vista Home Premium on my home PC and would like to learn (at my
own pace) about virtual computing, however when I ask my more knowledgeable
work colleagues as to whether I can install Microsoft Virtual PC on Vista
Home Premium I get conflicting answers.
Microsoft say that they don't support Virtual PC on Vista Home Premium -
but at least 2 of my colleagues say they have installed it on their own
instillations of Home Premium.
Can I or can't I ..... and if I can't what virtual set up would you
recommend I go with ?

That's a true statement.
That's also true. Just because it's not supported, doesn't mean it
will not work, just that it's not certified to work. It runs just
fine on home versions.

The only problem is that if you find a problem with VPC, you can't get
support from Microsoft to make it work. (there's always this
newsgroup that can help. <g>)
That all depends on what you want to do.

Just click past the disclaimer and it installs fine.

Concerning the way to go after, please be aware that if you want to
test with different versions of Windows you need a separate license
for each guest PC you create and install Windows on. This is a
Microsoft licensing limitation.

But if what you want to do is explore the Linux world I would advice
against VPC2007 altogether because even if some Linux distros can be
made to work with VPC2007 there are so many problems that it is not
worth the bother.
In such case get yourself VMWare Player from VMWare instead!
For this here exists ready made downloade for many Linux distributions
thta work directly. You can even get a Sun Solaris virtual machine
from the net that is ready to go.
VMWare Player is a free download from them.

Finally, VPC2007 does not handle USB at all so any device you might
want to use that connects by USB is invisible inside VPC2007, whereas
it can be passed through to the guest in VMWare Player.

Not to me, I answered your question, but you are, of course, the sole
determiner if it helped you or not.
Not quite, I confirmed the statements were true.
Since you don't have official support for a home OS, it was just a
suggestion.
That's all I could do without you expanding on what you want to do.
The virtualization field is as huge a topic as anything in the
non-virtual world of computing.
