Installing XP Pro on VPC

I've installed VPC on my Vista ultimat 64, and trying to install XP pro on
the Virtual hard drive I set up.
The XP cd autoboots, and setup begins....when it get to the point where it
formats the partition, setup fails.
Has this happened to anyone else? What am I missing?

Re: Installing XP Pro on VPC

Sorry that I wasn't exactly clear on my question.

I've tried differen vhd's first using the defaults, which picked a size of
65,500 MB (dynamic).
Also I've had it go fixed at a smaller size of 6,000MB. I've run through
windows setup to the point
where it gets to the actuall installing of XP on the hard drive.

The screen that says:
"The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on
this computer."

You then pick the drive and push enter. It asks for partion size and type.
(I've tried both ntfs, and fat)
The progress bar goes to the end showing its formating. But soon as it
reaches 100% I get the error screen:

"Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged.
Make sure the drive is switched on and properly connected to your computer.
If the disk is a SCSI disk, make sure your SCSI devices are properly
terminated.
Consult your computer namual or SCSI adapter documentation for more
information.
You must select a different partition for Windows XP.

To continue, press ENTER."

After that its either go back to the part where it asks to format, or quit
setup.

I hope this explains my problem better, any advice to get passed this is
appreciated.

What antivirus system (if any) are you running on the host?
It might be intercepting your handling of the VHD file.
VHD should be excluded from antivirus scanning...
