| | LAN ADAPTER UNDER VPC I have installed Virtual PC 2007, and three versions of Windows Vista on it (Ultimate, Home Premium, and Business), as well as Windows XP Professional. I cannot get onto the Internet with any of them. The Settings Menu for each of the installed OSs shows a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. This is correct as this is the integrated Ethernet on my ASUS P5E MOBO. However, checking in the VPC Device Manager for each OS it shows the following installed: Intel 21140 - Based PCI fast Ethernet Adapter (Emulated). Obviously, the hardware actually installed on the Host Machine is not showing up in the Device Manager of the VPC even though the Settings Menu for the VPC is showing the correct hardware configuration. Has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did you get out of it? Are there any suggestions to get the correct hardware to show up in the VPC? Thank you for your assistance Regards, Vic |

| | Re: LAN ADAPTER UNDER VPC The Intel 21140 card is what is emulated for all virtual machines. They cannot "see" any hardware on your host machine unless it is reached by sharing a disk, or something like that. But if your host PC is directly connected to the Internet without any router in between then your ISP probably only provides for a single IP address to be given, in which case you have to get yourself a router to put between Internet ((A)DSL) and the local network. If you go the "Shared networking" way then the guest will use the host to gain access to the Internet, but it will not be possible to communicate between the guests or between host and guest.
