You can run a VNC server or something like a logmein daemon on the host
OS and in the virtual OS you can control the host machine. Considering
that you're looking at the virtual machine via the host machine though,
this might make for some interesting infinite loop screen update situation.

Apart from something like that, you're as limited as you would be by
trying to achieve that on any other two separate PCs, because that's
effectively what they are.

Several things:

1) This newsgroup is for Virtual PC - there is a dedicated newsgroup for
Virtual Server:
http://vpc.visualwin.com/ngfaq.aspx#2

2) As far as the software (OS and applications) is concerned, a virtual
machine is exactly the same as a physical machine. When you install a copy
of Windows on a virtual machine, it doesn't know that it's being installed
on a virtual machine - it has no need to know that. Same with Office, etc.
So, imagine you have two physical machines instead of one physical machine
and one virtual machines. If you installed Office on one of the physical
machines, could you run it from the other one? It's the same with a virtual
machine.

3) Apart from a few very specific cases, a virtual machine is considered the
same as a physical machine as far as licensing is concerned. E.g. if you
have a copy of Office on your host machine, you can't just install that on a
virtual machine without removing it from the host machine first:

Re: link between VP and Host OS

Correct, you'd have to also install it in the guest to use it in the
guest.

Re: link between VP and Host OS

Not an expert but I always thought that a network connection between two PCs
is enough to install a program located on one to another. On my Win98 VPC,
from "my computer" or the "command window" I can see the host desktop, and
run a program placed there. Of course there are many considerations required
to do this successfully, including network rights (not sure of the term),
local paths, licenses, matching the program to the OS, etc.

Re: link between VP and Host OS

Most apps these days need a lot more in install to run than just
having the files available. (registry entries mainly) Office
wouldn't be able to run the way you suggest for example...

This was an interesting question and the answer would be yes for those
executables that are not registry dependent and no for those that are.

As to your surmisal about installing, it depends on the attributes of the
network connection --what you call rights (which is probably a fine way of
saying it)
