Vista - DDE Client problems

I'm having some trouble with setting up a DDE client in a Windows 2000 SP4
Virtual Machine. The Host is XP SP3.

When I connect (guest) to a DDE Server (same guest) it seems to connect for
a few seconds before dropping off. When I connect Guest to Host, again the
same thing.

Has anyone had similar experiences or can suggest a resolution? We thought
that the virtual environment would allow us to support legacy
software/systems without having to maintain legacy hardware.

If more details are required, then I'll gladly supply them

Just to add, Host PC is running Virtual PC 2007 SP1, both (Real and Virtual)
PC's have the same server installed (RSLinx) when I use DDESpy to look at the
output, this is the information I get back (as well as all the queries to the
rest of the top level windows on the OS)

Initially I'm trying to connect the DDE Client on the Guest to the DDE Server
on the Guest. I'm also wanting to go from Guest to Host across the Loopback
adapter, but that can wait - I'll settle for getting the Guest DDE Client to
Guest DDE Server working!
