With Local Only all virtual machines will be connected to one and the same internal network, which is not visible outside your host PC. If you select the host NIC then the virtual machines will all be connected to the outside network (probably not a good idea). However, if you just want several virtual machines to communicate with each other using the network then you should stick to a single NIC in each (the default) but set them as above to "Local Only" so that they do not pass traffic out to the physical network. You also need to set the NIC properties *inside* the virtual machines to a fixed IP address (select one in the 192.168.x.x range). All of these should be on the same network of course.... If you want to set up a virtual network with a server and a few other PC:s then you could actually let the server have two NIC:s, one set to the host PC NIC an dthe other Local Only. THen the server could act as a router for the other PC:s on your virtual network out to the Internet.... -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |

| | Re: How to set up 3 NICs on VPC? Hi Bo That's the problem: I can't add any more nics in 'settings for vpc'. It shows 4 menues for 4 adapters but only 1 of them is active and accepts all those settings you have mentioned. My goal is to have next: 3vpc communicate with each other trough 'public' network. it could be that they see only themselves and host pc. 2 vpc's have 1 extra network in which they communicate with each other only by 'private' network. The same 2 vpc should be able to see emulated san device which will have network address from 'public' network. it probably will reside on host pc. So far i am having problem with 3rd vpc since it shows wrong entries for ipv4 (duplicate) and totally wrong in 'prefered' line. if you have any ideas, please let me know. Btw, 2 other vpc's are using 'intel' adapter simulation. Btw, 2 other vpc's are using >'intel' adapter simulation. Step 3 is simply setting the number of adapters to the count you want in the top control on that page..... Then that number of detailed config sections will be enabled. How the adapters assign their IP addresses is entirely up to the operating system rinning *inside* the virtual machine. So if you run Local Only (which means you do not have a DHCP server available) you have to set a fixed address *inside* the virtual machine's operating system. The VPC console just defines the available hardware in the virtual machine. -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |
