| | Virtual Box I was somewhat disappointed to learn that virtualpc didn't have many device options available after I installed winxp. however, after installing and reviewing virtualbox, it appears this program provides an array of available devices, like usb. is there any reason why winxp should not function better in virtualbox then being limited by the features of virtualpc? ----------------------------------- incidentally, I also discovered that virtual box could tap into the vhd file made by virtualpc. but in doing so, windows came back with a message that it recovered from a registry error and due to the new hardware change, winxp wanted to be reactivated. I guess all the extras provided by virtual box increased the hardware id that windows had while in virtual pc. fortunately, I had a backup copy of the vhd file and used it to restore the previously activated winxp in virtual pc. --------------------- but now I wonder if I would be wasting my time and resources utilizing the limitating virtualpc for winxp when it seems that virtualbox is more advanced. any suggestions as to how I might get winxp into virtualbox without reinstalling and or reactivating? |

I don't think you can get around reactivating XP when you move to VirtualBox from VPC, its got a completely different hardware set (virtually) so to XP it looks like you changed everything but your CPU. Your not going to get an objective opinion on a group dedicated to a specific VM. |

I've used Bochs, VMware, and VPC, for example. Even some of the MVP's have commented on cases where VMware is the better solution. - Bill |

| | Re: Virtual Box thanks for the fyi! actually, what I have been able to do so far is to create shared folders between the os and the virtual o.s. what I am trying to accomplish is to have the virtual o.s.'s to print my doc's via the usb laser printers that are not supported for vista by hp. seems like pclinux might be a helpful alternative.
