Drivers for Virtual PC 2007 on Vista Ultimate

Hello,
I just installed Virtual PC on a Vista Ultimate32 OS. I installed XP Pro as
my virtual PC. Now, do I have to install XP drivers for my laptop for the
virtual machine? If yes, where do I install them? In the C: drive or in My
Virtual Machines or in the directory with the*.vhd file?
Also, my mouse is not capturing within VPC, if it does capture, it doesn't
stay captured for more than 1 second, is this about my drivers?

TIA
Don

From the VPC console menu:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourc...=VPC+Additions

Thanks, I got it updated and now the mouse seems OK. Now, I want to install
software that I only want to run on XP (the VPC), how do I install a
software program on the VPC? What drive or directory do I install the
programs on? Do I just choose the default installation directory that the
software prompts?
Thanks,
Don

For all practical intents and purposes your new VPC can be treated as a
brand new PHYSICAL machine. If you normally put programs in the
C:\Program Files folder then go ahead and put them there. If you need
to add another disk (say, as drive D: for data) then create it, format
it, and attach it to your new VPC. You can have up to three VHD
(Virtual Hard Drive) attached to a VPC machine.

Now that you have your virtual machine set up and working the way you want
it, the best piece of advice I can give you is to treat it EXACTLY THE SAME
as a physical machine. As far as the software installed on it (both OS and
applications) is concerned, there is no difference... XP hasn't the
slightest notion that it's running on a virtual machine - it has no need
whatsoever to know this - nor will any application software that you install
on it...

Henceforth, almost every question you will ever have about virtual machines
can be answered with "how would I do this on a physical machine?" So, if you
you were going to install a software program on a physical machine running
XP, where would you install it? Wherever it is, it will be the same on a
virtual machine...

Correct.

Well, I'm already having problems installing an application software. I
originally had only 256 MB of memory set on the VPC running XP Pro. When I
inserted the install disk and ran setup, the DOS window flashed, disappeared
and nothing happened. I looked at the software documentation and it requires
2GB of RAM, so aha, I cranked up the RAM on the VPC to 2.5 GB. (I have 3 GB
total on the host). Still have the same darn problem, DOS window opens and
disappears. Won't even install. It will install on Vista, but doesn't run
properly because it's made for XP. So, now I could use some suggestions.
Please and Thanks, Don

If your host only has 3G of memory and is running Vista, you cannot give
the guest 2.5G. The Vista OS on the host would be starved of memory. I am
surprised that the guest even starts.

Have you tried installing the software directly on Vista in
compatibility mode?
