RE: What is WOW

I am unsure as to what the acronym WOW means. The simplest method to finding
what type of OS you have is by doing one of the following.

1) Right click my computer - goto properties - in the system information you
will see x86 or x64 or a variant of this. This is discribed as the
architecture of the OS if I'm not mistaken.

2) Download an external app, such as PCWizard, that will tell you almost
anything you would like to know about your system. Including driver versions,
CPU settings, memory settings, and hard drive information. Some programs will
even go as far as getting your updates for you.

I hope this helps you in finding the information you are looking for.

WoW64 (Windows-on-Windows 64-bit) is a subsystem of the Windows
operating system that is capable of running 32-bit applications and is
included on all 64-bit versions of Windows — including Windows 2000
Limited Edition, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, IA-64 and x64
versions of Windows Server 2003 and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista
and Windows Server 2008.

WOW = Windows on Windows
Provides a back-level emulation layer for software to run in a
compatibility mode for a prior version of Windows on which they were
developed. It provides compatibility for 16-bit apps running on 32-bit
versions of Windows.

WOW was in 32-bit versions of Windows to provide 16-bit backwards
compatiblity. WOW64 provides compatability for 32-bit apps on the
64-bit OS.

I didn't think VirtualPC supported any 64-bit OS'es as a guest. None
are listed at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro.../overview.mspx

The host OS can be 64-bit, there is a 64-bit version of VirtualPC 2007
(i.e., the app the runs on the 64-bit OS), but there is no support for a
64-bit guest.

To be pedantic, there isn't a 64-bit version of VPC 2007... There is a
version of VPC 2007 which includes a 64-bit virtualisation driver in order
to run properly on 64-bit systems. However, it's still a 32-bit app:

Correct.
