| | Non-Virtual HD Is It Posiible Basically, I installed Vista on a second hard drive I had. I want to know is it possible to use that hard drive instead of a virtual hard drive. Right now I have to reboot my computer to get to vista, so basically I was wondering if I could use Virtual PC to run my vista that is on a physical drive. If not is there a way I could, using any program? |

All of the hardware is different in a VM than your actual physical setup, except the CPU. You may need to repair you Windows installation to get it to boot properly. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |

How do you get a VM to use a physical hard disk >instead of a virtual hard disk...? before. Well, never mind. I just re-read the release notes for SP1 and you can created a VHD for a linked disk, you just can't use it in a VM...not sure what the point of being able to create a linked disk is in the first place then. VM Ware can use a physical disk. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |

But it won't boot from the linked disk. Seems like a bad way to do p2v when one could instead use Acronis with Universal restore to do it with corrections for hardware differences in the same process... -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |
