4gb USED?

In a Windows XP 32bit machine with 4GB of RAM installed does Virtual PC 2007
use the top GB or is it just like other applications, unaware of the space.

It is like any other application. If the host can't see if, VPC can't
see it.

Shirley, you jest!
Is this a serious question?
I may be wrong but Ram stands for Random Acsess Memory - which means "random access" . It doesn't matter if it's top or bottom or inbetween. What matters is if its unused, i.e. available.
If you're talking about installing Windows 7 beta then the recommended ram if I remember is 1Gig of physical memory. See if you have that available in System Information. Most people are fine with 400 -500 MBs
Cheers.

Alan is asking whether Virtual PC 2007 can use all of the RAM installed on
the motherboard or only the RAM which the OS makes available to apps.

On a system with 4GB or more RAM, 32-bit Windows will typically be able to
make between 3.2GB and 3.5GB available for apps to use. 64-bit OS are not
subject to this...
