Open .vhd in VPC 2007?

I'm trying to work with the Visual Studio 2010 CTP that (according to the
documentation) is supposed to come as a .vmc.
When I downloaded all the parts from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Then ran the self-extractor in part 1, I got a file with a .vhd extension.
With this file, all the CTP instructions are useless, because the
instructions assume a .vmc.

What do I have to do to get this working in VPC?

Sounds like something has gone wrong either with the download or extraction.
The instructions say: "VisualStudio2010CTP_11PartsTotal.part01.exe extracts
two files (VisualStudio2010CTP.vhd and VisualStudio2010CTP.vmc).", so you
should definitely have a .vmc file...

However, it's easy enough to create one:

1) Launch VPC

2) Click the New button

3) Click Next

4) Specify Windows Server 2008 as the target OS

5) Give it a minimum of 1GB RAM - more if you can spare it, especially if
you're intending to use SQL Server etc...

6) When you get to the Virtual Hard Disk screen, specify that you want to
use an existing hard disk, and then select the vhd that you extracted
previously.

Thanks very much for that, Mark, and I've confirmed that the extraction
process does not complete correctly under Windows 7, where it does under XP
and Vista. Once extracted on a different machine, the image works OK under
VPC 2007 in Win 7. I've reported it in the Win 7 beta groups.
