| | Super Slow Performance in VPC - 6mhz? Hi all- I decided to install windows 7 beta on a vpc to play with it after seeing others do it but the performance is incredibly slow. The VPC is installed on on a AMD Turion 64 x2 tl-58 1.90ghz processor and 4gb of ram. I gave the VPC 1.5gb of ram and 30 gigs of hard drive. The Windows 7 install took about 12 hours to complete! Start up is fast but even moving the mouse around is choppy and open the start menu takes at least 5 seconds. When I go into the control panel 7 says I have 1.5gbs of ram but that the processor speed is "AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58 6MHz. How do I give more of the processor to the VPC? I have the latest version of VPC with SP1 and installed windows 7 as "other" How do I increase the processor clock? THANKS! |

| | Re: Super Slow Performance in VPC - 6mhz? Mr. Comer, Power settings are already on maximum and its plugged in as well. How do I install the VPC additions? Do you happen to know why additions fixes the problem? What's holding the performance down so much? When I click on actions -> install additions it says it will run it as a cd but nothing happens when I click ok. Thanks! "Robert Comer" wrote: Quote: > You need to install the VPC additions. | | Re: Super Slow Performance in VPC - 6mhz? It was just extremely slow and evenchaully started the installation which just completed. After the reboot the system is just as slow. It takes almost ten minutes boot. I cannot remember ever using a computer this slow, if it wasn't running in VM I would think that the computer was frozen. I have a cpu utilization gadget running on the host OS (Vista Ultimate) which never goes past 50% so there is plenty of untapped utilization. Control panel in 7 now shows 1gb ram but now says "14046291MHZ" haha not sure what that means.... Any other ideas I can do to get VPC to utilize the processor? I'm doubting that it is a problem with Windows 7 since the installation took so long. I haven't got the sound working yet but see that it is a common problem but perhaps it is useful in diagnosing the problem? I havent fixed it yet because its too slow to do anything with. So do the VM have a virtual kernel or does it access the system kernel? Thanks for your help! Thanks! I know 10 minutes isn't normal! I have several friends running 7 in VPC, some with only 512 ram and its lightning fast, very impressive! I have the latest version of VPC with SP1 and >installed windows 7 as "other" How do I increase the processor clock? Do as follows: 1) Shut down the guest completely 2) Delete its VMC file (keep the VHD) 3) From the VPC2007 console create a new guest and this time select Vista as the type 4) When you come to the hard disk, choose existing and browse to your VHD file 5) Start up the guest again and then from the action menu install the Virtual Machine Additions 6) Make sure that all host system power settings etc are set for full speed (no throttling) -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |
