| | VPC 2007 maximum RAM Hello, currently I use a PC with 2 GB RAM and Windows 2000 as the host OS. Sometimes I get the problem that it lacks needed RAM to start another VM. I'd like to buy a new and faster PC with 4 GB RAM and Windows XP 32-bit. XP can handle 3 GB or a bit more. Can VPC handle more than 2 GB (total)? Why I ask: I know that VPC runs all VMs in a single process. A process under Windows XP normally cannot allocate more than 2 GB of RAM, even if more real RAM is available. But VPC may be different since its used memory does not appear in the task manager's process list. Thanks in advance, Markus |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: VPC 2007 maximum RAM Hello Markus, You might consider using a 64-bit OS as the host instead so that you can have and use more than 3.2 GB of RAM with. VPC will only run a 32-bit OS VM, so it will never use more than 3.2 GB per VM if it is available from the host. Hope this helps, Shawn Hello, currently I use a PC with 2 GB RAM and Windows 2000 as the host OS. Sometimes I get the problem that it lacks needed RAM to start another VM. "With SP1, Windows Vista will report the amount of system memory installed rather than report the amount of system memory available to the OS. Therefore 32-bit systems equipped with 4GB of RAM will report all 4BG in many places throughout the OS, such as the System Control Panel. However, this behavior is dependent on having a compatible BIOS, so not all users may notice this change", Microsoft revealed. Probably the same for Windows 7. |

Original question: Given a PC with 4 GB RAM + Windows XP 32-bit host OS + VPC 2007. XP can handle 3 GB or a bit more. Can VPC handle more than 2 GB (total sum of all VMs)? Is there anyone who tried this out? Markus |
