Cannot install sound device drivers in Win-7

I used the "Vista" option when setting up my virtual Win-7 beta pc, however,
during installation, Win-7 could not set up sound drivers. My XP host PC
uses Realtek HD Audio drivers. So I downloaded and installed Realtek's Vista
version of their drivers, but Win-7 device manager lists the device in an
error state "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Is there a fix for this, or are there other sound drivers (eg, legacy) that
I might install instead?

Thanks

Irrelevant. Apart from the CPU, all hardware in a virtual machine is
emulated - makes no difference at all what physical hardware is present on
the host machine:

Indeed so, because the virtual machine doesn't contain a RealTek sound
device. You need to uninstall these drivers immediately.

When you created the VM, what did you select for OS? For the correct
sound drive to be installed from the VM Additions, you need to select
Vista.

If you didn't, shut down the VM, make a new .vmc config file and
attach the existing VHD to it, then boot up, and reinstall the VM
Additions.

Try manually removing the VM Additions via Programs and Features,
reboot, and reinstall.
It's possible tha the Realtek drivers were blocking something from
working.

'Fraid not...

And it seems that people just aren't satisfied with "this is the *VERY FIRST
PUBLIC BETA* of Windows 7 - there will be bugs" as an explanation... ;-)

Re: Cannot install sound device drivers in Win-7

I did pick Vista when I originally created the VM
