Isolation from Host software

How isolated are the two products, host & Guest OS's?
If I get a virus in the guest, do I have to worry about the host?

I've got a guest OS and as far as I'm concerned it's disposable. I
could wipe it and reload in 20 minutes. I'm thinking, screw it, let it
happen!

As isolated as any other two machines - the fact that one of them is a
virtual machine is irrelevant...

Depends what the virus is, of course, but there are plenty of network
viruses around:

Treat virtual machines as exactly the same as physical machines - if you had
two physical machines on your network, would you install AV software on only
one of them...?
