Can VPC and VMWare share VHDs?

Been thinking it's past time to take a closer look at VMWare. To what extent can I
use the same VHDs with the two? Am I stuck building new VMs from scratch with
VMWare? Thanks!

You can *copy* the VHD file thus leaving the working one untouched....
But you *MUST* first uninstall any VM Additions you might have
installed in the guest. Additions from VPC are not compatible with
VMWare at all, they have their own technique called VMWare Tools.

VMWare has an option to use a VHD disk file from VPC so you should
simply be able to create a new machine and point it to the VHD file
and go from there.

Ah, okay, so it uses the existing one sort of as a template, or something? I'll
give it a shot, with copies just to be sure. Thanks...

VMWare has their Converter utility. You can use it to convert the VPC
file to one usable by VMWare. However, the emulated hardware is
different for the different VMs. You may end up having to do a repair
install to get the OS drivers installed and active for the emulated
hardware in the VM server to which you migrated the VM file.

For "plain vanilla" VMs, baseline things to run tests against, it almost sounds
easier to just rebuild from scratch?

Probably much easier to just have both VPC and VMWare installed and use
them both with their own VMs.
