| | VHD size I like VirtualPC much better than VMWare, but VHD sizes seem to be limited to 128GiB. Is there a new VHD format/spec available to have VHD files larger? |

That means you are looking for storage space for applications and/or data files. So why not simply add another VHD to the VM (i.e., add another drive to the VM)? From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...cc708315.aspx: The maximum size for a virtual hard disk is 2,040 gigabytes (GB). However, any virtual hard disk attached to the IDE controller cannot exceed 127 gigabytes (GB). To support a larger virtual hard disk size, attach the virtual hard disk to a SCSI adapter. This article is for Virtual Server. However, I would think the VHD maximums would be the same for VirtualPC. Have you tried creating a VM whose drive is on a SCSI disk? |

| | Re: VHD size It's more that I want to take a physical machine and convert to virtual with the same size partition which while may be 250G in size, only 4 G is used, but want the 250G partition, on a dynamic expanding VHD. It wouldn't take much for them to add 48bit support to the VM and VHD format (maybe a day at most). Most disk imaging software can adapt to a smaller partition size as long as the data amount is not greater than the partition. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |
