USB recognition

to clarify.... if I use Virtual PC with Vista as a host and XP as a
guest.... will my USB printer and USB external harddrive be recognized in
XP?

If not are there any other free virtual machine applications that will
easily recognize the USB devices while in the guest VM?

There is no USB subsystem in the emulated hardware for the guest that
VPC2007 supplies. This means that exactly *nothing* will show up in
the guest as a USB device.
Some items that are connected to the host via USB still can be visible
inside the guest, like keyboard, mouse disk drives etc, but then they
are visible as PS/2 keyboard and mouse and shared folders, not as USB
devices.

VMWare Workstation (not free) and VMWare Player (free) both handle USB
devices internally and can utilize for example USB protection dongles,
printers and more.
