| | Re: Network That is essentially the default setup. Check the settings of the vm. Is the network adapter set to use the physical NIC in the host? If that is set correctly, do an "ipconfig /all" from a command prompt on both host and guest and compare the network configs. The fact that they are made of software instead of hardware is completely irrelevant to your question. Secondly, the answer to this question, like almost all VPC questions, is "how would I do this if my virtual machines were physical machines?". So, if you had two physical machines one of which was running SQL Server, how would you connect to it from the other? You'd network them. 1) Launch the Virtual PC console. 2) Select, but don't start, the virtual machine in question. 3) Click the Settings button 4) In the left pane, select Networking 5) In the right pane, make sure that Adapter 1 is pointing at the host's NIC and not Local only, Shared Networking or Not Connected. 6) Click OK 7) Start the virtual machine - if you change the network adapter in 5) above, it will find it and use it. 8) Add the virtual machine into the same domain or workgroup as the host machine. 9) Make sure that SQL Server is running, and that the firewalls on the host and the guest are configured to allow SQL traffic between them, usually port 1433... -- Mark Rae ASP.NET MVP http://www.markrae.net |
