NT 4.0 BSOD with dongle connected

Hi,

I have a NT 4.0 virtual PC with SP6 running on a XP Pro host. The NT machine
is running a legacy SCADA package that uses a dongle connected to the
parallel port for authentication. The machine runs for a number of hours but
then it crashes with BSOD and a memory dump. I think the problem lies with
the HASPNT.sys file which is use with the dongle as this appears on the
memory dump in a number of places. I have not had this problem with this
configuration on the legacy system just running NT 4.0 and the SCADA, this
runs for ever. The reason for me using the Virtual PC is I need to also run a
SAP client along with the SCADA and they will not run on each others OS(SAP
runs on XP, SCADA runs on NT 4.0).

Any help would be gratefully received.
Rob

At least previously, this is a conflict between VPC and the HASP
driver. Unfortunately, the last update I knew of was that it was a
low level architectural conflict that would require either VPC or the
HASP driver to be redesigned from scratch.

If the newest HASP driver and VPC2007 don't work...you're probably
going to need to look for a different VM application. Sun xVM
VirtualBox is also free.

Re: NT 4.0 BSOD with dongle connected

Thanks for your help Steve, this is what I guessed from reading info on some
other sites. I do have a newer HASP driver I'll try it today, if this doesn't
work then I will try VirtualBox as you suggested.

Cheers
Rob
