Setup?

How do you create a virtual machine with a setup disk? (Not bootable)
Such as Windows 95 or WindowsME cd's. I can't get a non bootable cd to
install the OS.

Exactly the same way you would install the same OS on a physical machine -
there is no difference.

Older versions of Windows CDs were not bootable - that is why they came with
a boot floppy.

If you don't have a boot floppy, you'll need to make one or download one:

That works great. Setup runs and I can install Windows 98 but on the
first reboot after installation it will not boot. I did it twice but
nothing. All you do is keep getting the same original virtual boot strap
and you can't start Windows from C:\windows\setup.exe. It fails.

A virtual machine is *EXACTLY* the same as a physical machine as far as
software (OS and apps) is concerned - there is no difference...

You need the boot floppy in order to begin the installation process of
Windows 98. Why? Because the Windows 98 CD isn't bootable

But, on the first reboot *AFTER* installation, you have to remove the boot
floppy otherwise the virtual machine will keep on booting from it.

Just like a physical machine...

This isn't a Virtual PC question per se...

Did it work when you tried it?

What did they tell in the VMWare / VirtualBox newsgroups / forums...?
