Strange request

Hi,

Is there anywhere an original bootlable iso of XP can be downloaded from?

I have the COA from one of my old computers ( now running the windows 7 beta
;-) but cannot for the life of me find the disk that came with it. :-(

I don't trust any of the ones available on torrents etc to be virus/ trojan
free and they all seem to come "pre-cracked" or rubbish like that.

I just need a genuine clean image to make a nice safe test platform.

If you want it clean and authentic for a nice safe test platform then your
best bet is to buy an authentic MS OEM disk off eBay.

Is it possible to do in the US?

In Sweden if you post a sale of an XP OEM disk on the Ebay subsidiary
here then before the auction times out they close it after Microsoft
has reported it (which they do).
Apparently you are not allowed to sell the OEM disk even if it has not
been used. According to the license terms an OEM disk can only be sold
bundled together with a PC hardware platform.

You need to buy the full retail version AFIK.

You can download ISO's from Microsoft via the MSDN and TechNet
subscriptions. Direct from MS is the only way you're going to get a
legal and geniune XP ISO.

There seem to be many offers for sale of OEM disks on eBay, in many
cases the vendors website is also listed, from which you can purchase.
The website is outside the control of eBay, and you would lose eBay's
protection.
Others get round the MS conditions by supplying a piece of
hardware (a short connector lead) which they claim makes it a
legitimate OEM sale.
Many risk the torrent versions, and scan for infection with
more than one scanner after installation. More than one
scanner is needed to catch rootkits, trojans and virus
infections.

Hi,

How much does it cost to join those? I'm not working at the moment so money
is sadly a bit of an issue :-(

This would make the links easier to use since newsreaders brek long
ones into several lines:

Follow the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of Microsoft's home page.
You'll eventually get to a page describing how to order replacement
installation media.

Re: Strange request

Find someone with the same version (retail or OEM) of XP that you have.
Clone the CD. Then use your install key.
