| | Using a scanner with VirtualPC - How? Host: Vista Business SP1 Guest: WinXP SP2 Hardware: HP Scanjet 5550c (about 7 years old) This scanner's software won't work under Vista, and I need it to so I can scan in some slides and negatives. I decided to give VirtualPC a try. Set up very easily, but it won't recognize the scanner. The scanner is connected to the physical box via USB cable. Tried to add it via the Guest Control Panel > Have Disk -- didn't work. Tried to Scan for Hardware Changes in the Guest Device Manager -- didn't work. How do I get Virtual PC to "see" the scanner on the USB port? -- Mike Webb Platte River Whooping Crane Maintenance Trust, Inc. a conservation non-profit (501 (c)(3)) organization Wood River, NE |

| | Re: Using a scanner with VirtualPC - How? A search on HP web site shows a driver available for Vista. albeit a basic driver, maybe not what you want. A description from HP follows... This is the minimum driver required for basic WIA functionality. This driver enables scanning with the Windows Photo Gallery on Windows Vista or the Scanner and Camera Wizard on Windows XP. Scanning can also be done with a variety of 3rd party scanner enabled applications. You might find that some features are no longer available when using this basic driver. We are sorry to inform you that a full feature driver for Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will not be available for your HP product in the future. You can upgrade to an HP product that is fully compatible with Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition if additional features are necessary.
