| | Windows 7 virtualisation Hi Not sure if I'm reading the blurb correctly - is the plan for Windows 7 to incorporate what Virtual PC does - i.e the ability to create virtual guest PCs running different OS's? Thanks |

I don't think so, but it does have the ability to mount virtual hard drives and assign drive letters to them. -- David Wilkinson Visual C++ MVP |

I don't really understand all the language/concepts but just wondered if it meant Virtual PC being absorbed into the OS - especially since Virtual PC 2007 is just that - 2007! |

| | Re: Windows 7 virtualisation "I'd agree with David, it's basically got the VHDmount utility built into the OS." I don't know which versions will support that, it might be just the ultimate version. Will have to wait until the RC comes out to find out for sure. | | Re: Windows 7 virtualisation At least with the Ultimate version you can use disk management and bring up a context menu with the mouse to create or attach a vhd. You can also detach a vhd through the disk management console. You can also use the command line and use diskpart.exe to attach or create a virtual disk file. As of the beta, you still need to install virtual PC or Virtual Server to run a virtual computer (or of course a 3rd party program).
