Hyper-v Server

Is the general purpose of hyper-v server to be host or guest os?

If it is guest os, does this mean that all of the interation with os is done
line mode? What happens when you install exchange 2007 server, do you get
console?

If it is host os, how do you start virtual machine? Do you need to first
install virtual pc? etc..

Thanks in advance

It is the host OS.
You do the management via a remote Vista or W2k8 system.

Host.

Exactly the same as what happens when you install it on a physical machine -
there is no difference as far as the guest OS is concerned, or the apps
installed on it...

Through the Hyper-V Management Tools / MMC snap-in

No - Virtual PC is a completely different product...

Re: Hyper-v Server

Thanks for your help.

Can you use Virtual machine file created with Virtual PC 2007 on hyper-v
server?

I am assuming Hyper-V Management Tools / MMC snap-in is from a remote vista
or windows 2008 server.

However, I can't connect to the hyper-v server as it says the RPC services
are down. How do you start RPC server on hyper-v server?

Thanks for your help

Re: Hyper-v Server

To download the Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 Configuration Guide,
go here...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Or do a search using "Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 Configuration Guide" at
Microsoft's download center, and it should be the first in the list.
