| | virtual pc I am trying to run server 2003 from an external hd named server01, when I click on it, it says "The virtual machine "Server01" can't be started because it is being used by another program, or marked as read-only. To start this virtual machine, stop using the virtual machine in another program, or ensure that it is not marked read-only. what can or should I try? |

To start this >virtual machine, stop using the virtual machine in another program, or ensure >that it is not marked read-only. what can or should I try? what you are doing... 1) Which virtualization software are you using (VPC2007, VS2005, Hyper-V, VMWare...) 2) How was the virtual machine created? The fact that its files reside on an external hard drive has nothing whatsoever to do with the way the machine works... 3) Exactly *how* are you trying to start it? Be specific, because clicking a hard drive in Windows explorer hardly constitutes starting a virtual machine. You should at least have *double*-clicked something, exactly what is this? Normally a vPC2007 virtual machine is started by using the Start button in the VPC2007 console, and a VS2005 virtual machine can also be started from the admin website console or VMRC+ or is set up to start automatically with the operating system on the host. -- Bo Berglund |

The problem is not in the vp console, the account from last semester will still work. After I downloaded the files from the CDs, I checked to see if it was working, it worked fine at school. Is there a compatibility issue w/ Vista and the ex hd? |
