Most US keyboards DO NOT HAVE "alt Gr" keys. Ive used several hundred computer keyboards over the last thirty years and have never seen an alt-gr key? What is the alternative

Try the right Alt key.

The default host-key is the right ALT. On Euro keyboards this is
labeled ALT-Gr
