news:es3$VpnyJHA.1372@xxxxxxI have installed the beta on Windows 7 RC. I am running XP SP3 in the VM.
I installed the updated VM Additions. The video performance is actually
worse than in VPC 2007. I am stuck at 16 bit color depth, and there is
noticeable lag when moving windows around. I *really* hope this gets
fixed.

It still emulates the same lame S3 video card, and while I realize this is
difficult to change, at least give it more video RAM.

Otherwise, performance is improved over VPC 2007, and is stable. Windows 7
also seems solid. So far OK, waiting for final releases of both.

Also, what do we use for newsgroup access in Win 7? WinMail from Vista
USED to work in the January Beta, but does not work in the RC.

Forté Free Agent, Thunderbird and others...

You install the integration components...

Could be the video driver on your host that's slower, hard to tell.

The 16-bit is a byproduct of the integration components, if you
disabled them in the settings for the VM, you can get 32-bit color and
probably better performance. There seems to be something going on
with video performance and the integration components on some PC's
right now. (but not all)

But since it now uses a modified RDP protocol, that's not a limitation
any more for supported OS's. (it's not limited to the S3 chipset
anymore.)

Yep. I personally like the seamless apps the best myself.

I personally use Agent, but you could use OE6 in Windows XP mode
(seamless). <g>

Gak, not sure what I was writing there I just wanted to say they're
called integration components.

Ah yes, it works MUCH better after disabling the Integration Components.

I have Agent, and while it is great for downloading binaries it blows for
reading/replying. It is stuck in quaint, 90s style "Online/Offline" modes,
which do not apply when you have cable and are always "online". I much
prefer Windows Mail.

I love the way Agent works, no lags or delays like forums...I can just
pull down my newsgroups and read and reply.

Yeah, I know many people like it. To me it just seems clumsy and
clunky. I like the "just hit the space bar" navigation of Windows
Mail (and most Mac newsreaders.)

Re: Windows Virtual PC Beta

Space bar works for navigation in Agent too. (next page / next
message if at the bottom of the message)
