Vista - Vista 64 and virtual pc 2007

I recently purchased a new computer for my business. The computer is an HP
running Vista 64. After the initial setup I tried to load my business
software that I need to run my business. The software failed to install
properly. I called the software manufacturer and found that their software is
not compatable with 64 bit os. I must find a solution or return this
computer. Here is my question.
Can I use MS virtual pc to load a legal copy of windows xp 32 bit on the
vista 64 machine and which one do I need to install (virtual pc for 32 bit or
64 bit). I understand you can't make any promises about compatability on my
business software. I just need a solution so I can run my software. I would
like to keep the 64 bit os for normal computing but be able to run my

Yes you can - this is precisely what Virtual PC is for.

Virtual PC for 64-bit hosts, because that's what is running on your host.

So long as your legacy software doesn't require any advanced hardware (e.g.
graphics, sound, USB etc) you should be fine. But remember that all virtual
hardware in a virtual machine, apart from the CPU, is emulated - makes no
difference what physical hardware your host has:

Install Virtual PC 64-bit on your Vista-64 machine. Read the installation
notes carefully first. You probably want to enable hardware virtualization
in the computer's bios before installing VPC since most computers ship with
it disabled. Once VPC is installed, you create a new virtual machine,
allocate ram and disk space, and install whatever 32-bit OS you want. Note
that the guest virtual machine does not support usb devices. Your software
manufacturer should be aware of any issues running their software in a VM,
so check with them first.
