Vista - Successor of Virtual PC 2007

Hello,

does anyone know, if there will be a free Succesor-Version of VPC 2007,
which doesn't need special hardware rquirements concerning the processor; or
will there only the announced version , which is integrated in Windows 7 and
does need these requirements?

If by "special hardware requirements" you mean hardware virtualization, then
yes it also requires this. You should have this anyway if you need VPC, as
it is *made for* things like VPC, and VPC runs much better with it than
without it.

THX for your answer. I think, you have developed the new Version Windows
Virtual PC for professional users and developers, and not hobbyists like me
(and many other people). VPC 2007 has been a very nice sort of "toy" for
testing software or just a little bit of "playing" with the windows system,
in order to get more experienced without damaging the host system. So for me
its a bit disappointing, that the new version doesn'.t work on older
hardware (i.e. without hardware virtualization), not even unsupported!

Probably, but VPC2007 guests run quite well also without it...
It is not 5 years since hardware virtualization started to be common
in PC:s, that is rather like 1-2 years ago....
And even today the BIOS:es quite often do not work correctly with
hardware virtualization....
So if you bought a PC say 2 years ago should you really be barred from
using the latest software?

VPC7 isn't the VPC you know, it's branched off a lot from the original
code.

I hate to say it, but if you want VPC's true successor, look
VirtualBox. It's likely that this is what VPC would look like now if
MS hadn't purchased it...but it wouldn't be free though.

IMHO, VPC will never have feature parity with VM Ware Workstation or
VirtualBox. Microsoft's Linux support will never equal their Windows
support.

Well, it runs, but it unquestionably runs better with it.
In general, no. But something this specialized is a different case. IAC,
VPC 2007 will run on Windows 7.

Right now, for some people (me included), Windows 7 does not run well in VPC.
