    Virtual PC Integration Components

Just moved to Windows 7 RC with Virtual PC Beta. Love the fact that it's
based on the Hyper-V stack and had a pretty smooth transition of my favorite
    desktop VHDs.

However it looks like the Server OS's are not supported as Guests. Will
Integration Components for Windows Server 2003/2008 follow soon? Is this just
a Beta thing? Or will the Servers never be supported on Virtual PC? As a
Windows Server developer (Windows, ASP.NET, SharePoint) having personal
test/dev server images on my desktop host has become probably the #1
productivity leap of the last 10 years.

Am I travelling back in time?

I'm using a Server 2003 VHD in Windows Virtual PC that I have been using for
years in VPC 2007. The "integration components" are not needed. It works
    fine.

From what I've seen in the beta forums, there won't be IC for server
    OSes.

    VPC7 isn't targeted as a replacment for VPC2007, it's more for XP
    compatibility for Win7.

That makes sense, since it does seem to be somewhat limited compared to
    VPC2007.

So, "reading between the lines" can we infer that there WILL be a different,
full replacement for VPC2007 at some point? :-)

Yes, it doesn't feel like the VPC of old.

No idea, I'd like to hope so. I know the Virtualization team is aware
of the demand for a client verison of Hyper-V, but if we'll ever see
    one, who can say.

Thanks for this and apologies for delayed reponse.

With Windows 2003 Server on Virtual PC Beta I'm having the kind of mouse
respone issues normally associated with VPC2007 before Virtual Machine
Additions is installed. That's why my next step was to look for Integration
Compoenents. Looks like I'll have to go back to VPC2007 but not sure if that
is even supported on Windows 7.

    Thanks,

    brian

Actually, all non-integration-component-installed guests (e.g. Windows
Vista RTM) act this poorly. It's totally unacceptable and nearly
    impossible to use.

You can install the Additions from VPC2007 and you'll get much better
    performance.

Thanks Robert, that's pretty obvious. Getting the components installed
is the tough part, when the OS runs like a snail. (in Windows Virtual PC
    beta, not VPC07)

It really shouldn't be that bad, at least it's not that bad on my
PC's. Make sure you have your power management set to max performance
    if it's a laptop.
