Virtual XP won't boot after update.

Hi Guys & Girls

I have XP as a virtual machine, which recently completed an update. The
thing is it restarted after the update and now it won't boot into windows.
The XP logo with the blue animated bar comes up, sits there for a bit then it
restarts.
It then keeps doing and never starts.
Has any one got any ideas how I can get it to restart with out losing any
data on the drive. Its important that I don't lose the data.
Thanks
Zane

Re: Virtual XP won't boot after update.

It gets to the windows logo with the blue animated bar it then goes blank and
restarts its self. This then just keeps going round in a loop.
Every thing was fine yesterday, xp vm started it then informed an update had
installed and that it needed to restart.
I did that(Restarted) and then that was it..... no go, right before I was
due to start scoring a cricket match.... hence my frustration.

Cheers
Zane

You might boot the XP VM from an XP install CD, select recover on the
first screen to get to the recovery console, then running a chkdsk.
I've seen some slight corruption cause this kind of behavior with XP.

And if that doesn't work, boot from that same XP media, enter past the
first install screen, then it will find the old install and ask if you
want to repair it, take that option.

Also best would be to restore the whole .vhd file if you have a
backup, then you don't have to worry about fixing the current one.

In addition to Bob's advice, do you happen to recall what the update was...?
