newbie question

My hard disk is partitioned to C and D
After installing VM, can I use D to install Windows 7?

Virtual PC does not use physical drives to install an OS. Its drives are
"virtual hard disks", which are just files on the host.

There is no particular advantage to partitioning your hard drive before creating
a virtual machine. You can locate the virtual hard drive on your second
partition, but it will not help with performance.

On the other hand, if you have two physical drives, there can be a good
performance advantage in locating the virtual hard drove on a different physical
drive from the one where the host OS is installed.

Re: newbie question

I would highly suggest reading the documentation, not beating up on you, but
if you are asking this question your probably gonna have a difficult time
implementing VPC.

Re: newbie question

thanks for the advice
upon further reading, I guess my system is not up to using VPC
since I got only 1Gb of RAM

Not a showstopper by itself, it really depends on which operating
system you plan to install in the guest. If it is Vista, then yes you
cannot do it, but if it is XP or Win2000, then you can set aside 500
Mb for the virtual machine and leave 500 Mb for the host (which of
course cannot be Vista either).
I have worked this way for several years until I doubled my laptop's
RAM to 2 Gb.
