Headsets and microphones

Windows XP in virtual pc is not recognizing headsets and microphones, also
the virtual pc only assigned 250k ram to Windows xp but I have 8 megs of ram
so I would like to give xp at least 1 meg, I tried to find the option to make
the change but could not find it.

Thanks for any help.

Those are not part of the emulated hardware. Some things can be
passed through from the host, but I don't think microphones are one of
them and the host would have to control the headphones. (If it's VPC7
on Win7, USB headphones and Microphones may work)

Which version of Virtual PC? That is in the settings under "Memory",
but how to get to the settings may be different depending on the
version.

That's correct: http://vpc.visualwin.com/ngfaq.aspx#8

1) Launch Virtual PC, but do not start the VM whose memory you want to
change.

2) Select the VM in the VPC console and click the Settings button

3) In the left pane, highlight Memory

4) In the right pane, select the amount of RAM to allocate to this VM

5) Click OK

6) Start the VM

Did you attach it to the VM? If so and you're in the technical beta
you should turn in a bug on it.

Go to the "Start" menu, then "All programs", then "Windows Virtual
PC", then "Virtual Machines" and a window will open, Left single click
on "Virtual Windows XP", Then click on "Settings" in the button bar,
then click on "Memory". The virtual machine has to be totally shut
down to change the RAM setting, not just hibernated.

Re: Headsets and microphones

I couldn't get the VPC to start, even tried Run as administrator, however I
was able to make the change by opening the settings from the System32 folder.

All I need to know now is how to get the USB headset and mic working.

Thanks for your help
