WinVPC

Can/will Windows VPC run Win98, and other legacy MS OS? If not, can/will VPC
and VS run on a Win7 host?

Yes, that's one of the best uses for VPC.

Re: WinVPC

Robert, Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I was asking about Win7's WinVPC. All
that I have read seem to indicate that only Vista, WinXP, and Win 2008 can be
guest. Has anyone tried to run Win98 as a guest.

Re: WinVPC

Mark, Thanks for the link. Guess if Win7's WinVPC does not accomodate Win98
guest, I can always install VPC or VS in it.

I suspected you meant that but still think that's the best reason to
run even that version.

That's all that's supported, but not all that runs.

Me. <g>

When running older OS's, it is better to use the additions from an
older version of VPC than to run without any additions...

To answer your other question about VPC 2007 and Virtual Server, yes,
they should run fine in Win7 as long as you don't have the Win7
version already installed. (or have even tried to install the new
version as there is currently a problem of installing VPC2007 being
blocked if you ever installed the new one.)

It does, I've done it. I am in the process of adding the necessary
stuff to my website.

Basically, you need to boot from a CD, fdisk, and format, then run
setup. Works just like VPC2007, you just don't use a bootable floppy.

Re: WinVPC

I just did some more testing and yes, VPC2007 SP1 will install and run
in Win7 if you haven't tried to install VPC 7.

Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 will not install, it's blocked by the
compatibility routines.

Again, don't confuse "not supported" with "does not run". WinVPC will boot
and run any VHD that you have already created with VPC7. I have run MSDOS
and Windows 2000 and WinME in WinVPC beta.

Re: WinVPC

Bob, that is good news. I assume that you used the additions for DOS VM from
VPC 2004?
