| | DOS 6.2 under VirtualPC - access to LPT1 printer port? I'm trying to help a friend who has an old COBOL data base running under DOS 6.2 on an old 486 PC. - Mother Board failed - Have it working under VirtualBox but VirtualBox provides no access to LPT1 - The COBOL application renders most reports to the printer and not the screen - So VirtualBox... at this point does not seem like a solution. - I even tracked down the old DOS TSR LPT12FILE.com but since VirtualBox does not provide LPT1 the print files all go into a que and never appear in the file. My Question: 1 - Will VirtualPC allow access to the parallel printer port LPT1 ? 2 - Anyone have DOS 6.2 running under VirtualPC? 3 - I have the boot disk and 3 setup disk... would I normally need anything else? BTW, I'm running Windows XP Pro as my OS. Thanks for any help. |

Make sure to stop anything that will monopolize the printer on the host, inkjet/laser printer monitors, spoolers, etc. Quote: > >BTW, I'm running Windows XP Pro as my OS. > >Thanks for any help. | | RE: DOS 6.2 under VirtualPC - access to LPT1 printer port? What you want to do is doable. Download VPC and read the help files to get started. Ignore the reference that DOS is not supported, its not, but it runs, you just can not get help from MS. Go to http://vpc.essjae.com/ to get the 2004 VMADs. If possible get a copy of VPC2004 help files (don't know where), as I recall it may have stuff about DOS omitted in the VPC2007 help files. Search http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/ for other help. -- Wesley "Mel_3" wrote: Quote: > I'm trying to help a friend who has an old COBOL data base running > under DOS 6.2 on an old 486 PC. > - Mother Board failed > - Have it working under VirtualBox but VirtualBox provides no access > to LPT1 > - The COBOL application renders most reports to the printer and not > the screen > - So VirtualBox... at this point does not seem like a solution. > - I even tracked down the old DOS TSR LPT12FILE.com but since > VirtualBox does not provide LPT1 the print files all go into a que and > never appear in the file. > > My Question: > 1 - Will VirtualPC allow access to the parallel printer port LPT1 ? > 2 - Anyone have DOS 6.2 running under VirtualPC? > 3 - I have the boot disk and 3 setup disk... would I normally need > anything else? > > BTW, I'm running Windows XP Pro as my OS. > > Thanks for any help. > |
