| | virtualpc printing installed Microsoft Virtual pc 6.0.156.0 on vista home premium and installed Win98se. All ok. Can run some ancient programs but can not print. VPC does not support USB and of course my printer in on a USB port! Any suggestions as how I might solve this, short of another printer on lpt1. Does not have to be real simple as the need for printing is minimal. Print to a file and then print file from vista? Will have to have some way of configuring a printer in the vpc. How? Thanks for any thoughts. Gary |

Of course, you'd need Win98 drivers for the printer to install in the Win98 VM. alternately, get a free print to pdf program, use that, print to the Win98 desktop, and drag and drop it to Vista and just print from Vista. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |

Apparently win98 or virtual win98 cannot access vista or the printer over the network. Will try to locate a pdf driver on the net. Any suggestions? Thanks Gary |

For networked printing to work, your Win98 guest and Vista host must be in the same workgroup (or domain). So, check those settings. 2. If you already have printed to a file on the guest, and copied that file to the host, you do not "print" this file again - it already contains the necessary control codes for your printer. Instead, you just copy, or type, that file to the printer (that's how it used to work in DOS times, ages ago. Haven't used this for decades...) This would be done from a commandline on your host. |
