VPC doesn't use enough memory

I'm new to Virtual PC, so please pardon any newbie assumptions/mistakes. A
coworker set up a VHD for me to practice developing in Sharepoint. I'm
working on a laptop with 2 GB of RAM and we set up the VPC with a modest 512
MB of RAM. No matter what I do though, I can't get Virtual PC to take more
than 17 MB of RAM (according to the readings in Windows Task Manager). Even
with all other applications turned off (on the host PC) and lots of stuff
chugging along at an abysmally slow pace (on the VPC), it just won't budge
past the 17 MB mark. What can I do?

The 17MB is for the application, not the VM. The VM's memory usage
does not show up in the tasklist. It will show up as a chuck in the
bars on the left.

Have you installed the VM Additions in the VM? What OS are you using
in the VM?

How to speed up a VM on a laptop:
1. Make sure you're running at full power, no speedstep, etc.
2. Move the VM off your main OSes drive to a fast USB2, FireWire, or
eSata drive
