Creating an Virtual network using Virtual pc

Hi,
I'm using windows server 2008 and I'm new to it. I would like to use the
windows server as a host and create a network of some client machines as
clients(Windows xp, Vista etc) and like to study about the group policy
etc... Can anyone tell me where I find the learning resources and demos.

This has nothing to do with Virtual PC...

Re: Creating an Virtual network using Virtual pc

Hi,
I think I've put the question in the wrong way. My question is how to create
a network using virtual machines having a host machine as the host operating
system and clients as the virtual machines.

You create a network using virtual machine in *EXACTLY* the same way as you
create a network using physical machines - there is no difference.

This still has nothing to do with Virtual PC...

As Mark pointed out, this really is a networking problem, not a virtual
machine problem. What sort of virtualization are you running on this server?

As a general rule I would not recommend running the host as a domain
controller, whatever system you use.

Unless he uses VPC for clients
and is going to configure virtual adapters.

But you configure a "virtual" NIC in a VM the same way you configure a
"real" NIC on a physical PC.

What VM program are you using? Hyper-V, Virtual Server, etc?

What do you mean "create a network"? Do you mean a separate "virtual"
network isolated from the host's network? Or, are you just wanting to
set up a bunch of VMs on the existing network?

There are *no* extra settings inside the virtual machines.

The default setting of VPC2007 is to use the host's own NIC for the
NIC in the new guest and with this the OP will have to do *nothing* in
the guest after installing a Windows operating system there. Windows
will discover the network adapter, install the proper driver and set
up the network connection to use DHCP (Automatic) address retrieval.

There is absolutely nothing special about this compared to the same
scenario in a physically separate PC.
Don't confuse him by saying otherwise. He will be good to go using the
defaults.
