| | Cannot install Virtual PC on Windows 7 Hello, I'm running Windows 7 RC (Windows 6.1 Build 7100) 32 bit. My computer hardware supports virtualization, and it's enabled in BIOS. When I try to install Virtual PC from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/, file Windows6.1-KB958559-x86, I'm always getting a message: The update is not applicable to your computer What could be wrong here? I would appreciate your help. Thank you, Peter |

If you don't have the required hardware then it can't be installed. End of story. Your only option in this case is to install Virtual PC 2007, which will work even though it is not "supported". Supported in this context means if you are eligible to phone Microsoft for help on the system or not. It still works perfectly well. And of course you can go elsewhere for a working virtualization product: VMWare Workstation, Player and Server SUN VirtualBox -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |

To the original poster, What version of Windows 7 do you have and are you sure its 32-bit? You also say build 7100, that's not the released version of Windows 7. (it's 7600) beta instead of the release? I know I tested the W7 RC back before summer and then there was only the VPC beta available. But that installed fine in the RC and worked as expected. I don't think it is wise to mix RC and beta code, and right now when Win7 has hit the shops the OP should use the RTM and the VPC released version. -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |

| | Re: Cannot install Virtual PC on Windows 7 Thank you for your response. It is build 7100 for RC. According to this article: http://www.jasonslater.co.uk/2009/06...ndows-xp-mode/ Beta is 7000 and does not support Virtual PC. Yes, virtualization is enabled in BIOS. I don't know if something else is required, but I do know that in the past I was running Virtual PC on my machine. I don't remember what version it was, but it was after 2007, I bought my PC in 2008. I wonder - if I install an older version of Virtual PC - will it work with Windows XP mode? I guess I have to try. I would buy the full version of Windows Ultimate, sooner or later I'll have to do it anyway, but I'm not sure is it will work either.
