My Windows 7 box uses a GW-USMicroN USB stick to connect to my router and
give me happy internet connection.



When I try to make a virtual PC (that runs windows XP pro) I have no idea
how to make the VM connect to the internet.

when I had a network cable plugged,.. it just worked automatically, but the
VM is not seeing or being able to use the internet connection the physical
box has.. why?

Probably because it is not seen by the host as a network card. Only
network cards seem to be possible to share to the VPC guests.
My guess is that the USB device is seen as a modem on your host and
therefore it is not useful as a NIC to VPC.

But you should be able to set up Shared Networking on the host and use
this as the connection to the Internet from the guest. You won't be
able to communicate between the host and guest that way though.
