Extensions for non-XP VMs in Win7

So I moved to Win7 x64, and put the new "Windows Virtual PC" XP Mode
thing on. (What's the easiest way to identify that, as opposed to
    VPC2007, here?)

Brought along VMs from the past, including 2000 and 95, built with
either VPC2004 or 2007. Doesn't seem I can share the clipboard
anymore, and trying to update the extensions pretty much never works.
    Any solutions for that?

    Thanks... Karl

    Just call it WVPC...

No solutions, the old additions do still work but they're limited. No
shared folders and clipboard for older OS's.

No way to update to the integration components either, they're XPSP3
    and up.

I mean, I can easily make do with mapping drives, but losing the
    clipboard *really* hurts!!! :-(

    Hi,

So why don't you just continue to use VPC 2007 on Win7 instead of 'WVPC"?

I tried "WVPC" under Win7, in fact, I replaced the CPU on my laptop to
be able to do that, but after I tried it, I rather quickly uninstalled
it, and just used VPC 2007 instead...

I was actually more interested in using XP mode, but when I found that
you couldn't run both "WVPC" and VPC 2007 on the same Win7, I had to
make a decision, WVPC or VPC 2007, so I went with VPC 2007...

You can run the XP-Mode virtual machine in VMWare Workstation 7 (not free) or
VMWare Reader 3.0 (free) and use VPC2007 at the same time.

And the VMWare products do not require hardware virtualization.

If the user have a vacant XP license to install in a VPC2007.
Not all have it. MS used windows 7 xp-mode as a sales tracker.
Now I know; Why should I choose to load my Autocad 14
and other older programs into xp-mode for long term use,
    when not even a clipboard.
This xp-mode is a really baby soother.
The people who made this is really some smart-ass and
    nothing else except ma-like.

Investment in professional software and skipping this
foolish company would raise ones mood. This company
is really sunket too low down.
What kind of VMware should be bought. There's no
price information on their site ?.
    Anybody knows ?.

Good question. At the moment, I'm rather tied to WVPC because of the
lameass way FrontPage 2003 works (doesn't) in Win7. I could run it in
a full window VPC, but it wouldn't be as nice. I'm really torn though,
after seeing the clipboard disappear in other non-XP VMs. That may be
the final deal-killer on WVPC. Once again, MSFT disappoints on a grand
    scale.

I've never really taken the time to get comfortable with VMWare, but it
may simply be time to be done with this crap coming from MSFT. I mean,
    WTF? No clipboard??? Lame...

XP Mode has clipboard integration whether using the built-in VM or a XP
    SP3 VM you create yourself.

It's only older OSes running under Windows 7's Virtual PC that don't
have clipboard integration and if that's a critical thing for you,
Virtual PC 2007 is still available.

It works very well for what it's intended to do.

You'll still need that spare XP license.

Buying one more XP-license for use in the virtual PC 2007, when if
wanting to keep the original installed in windows XP-mode. After all
windows XP-mode could be useable in some instances. Anyway,
most users would not compleately uninstall it. Doing so and considering
this a full necessity would render an exstra critizimn against the
    constructors
    of this windows XP-mode.

Glad to hear this. But there's no clipboard function in my instalation
of XP-mode having the Integration coupled in. My install may not yet
be accomplished. In fact, in my situation windows XP-mode was intended
to be loaded with win98, as this is the most suitable operating system for
the Autocad 14 application. 14 was build for 98 I think.
If no clipboard there. Then Windows XP-mode does not fulfil its purpose.
Yet, I does not intend to uninstall it, as I'm using XPs IE6 in trial of
websites. Because ms's SuperPreView is a static picture-shower and
another mediocrity, that does not run menus having javascript in it.

OK, I have already downloaded it, but will consider VMware before
installing it. At least having a trial with VMware. There's other teasers
with XP-mode as slowness in startup.

If you happen to be an ms-employee, you should really think about
a correction to almost everything of mss software. And among getting
old good VB6 back on track. The doubtfull WPF is probably a source from
which some of the mediocrity araises from. Let VB6 come out.
A lot of people waits to buy it.

It's a wrong way to go, to limit the userbillity of the XP-mode
making a decition what best suits the user. On expense of
    having a fullblowned XP-operating system.
Again, If you're a ms-employee, get it all corrected.
