Problem Adding Server Hosts to SCVMM

I get this error, but I can't figure out exactly what it's wanting:

Error (2910)

Detailed Error (Access is denied (0x80070005))

VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the resource on the
bbvs01.baronbudd.com server.

Recommended Action

Ensure that Virtual Machine Manager has the appropriate rights to perform
this action.

Re: Problem Adding Server Hosts to SCVMM

It's saying:

1.) you've got a fiewall issue
2.) you've got SCVMM running from an account that doesn't have permissions
on the remote server
3.) that you have set up remote administration on your remote server
5.) that winrm isn't configured on the remote server

or some combination of the above.

Re: Problem Adding Server Hosts to SCVMM

On the SCVMM Server, I note these services and credentials:

Virtual Disk Service - Local System
Virtual Machine Helper - Local System
Virtual Machine Manager - Local System
Virtual Machine Manager Agent - Local System
Virtual Server - Network Service

I think these are the defaults, so I assume they are correct. Should I
change them to something else, like a domain admin account?

Thanks

Re: Problem Adding Server Hosts to SCVMM

I don't currently have an SCVMM machine set up, but I strongly suspect that
you need to run as network service on Server 2k8 if you want access from a
remote machine. Local service is limited to local connections, IIRC.

Re: Problem Adding Server Hosts to SCVMM

Well, tried setting all VM-related services on both machines to a domain
admin account instead of local system. Still no luck, and I have absolutely
no idea what the heck it wants other than some account somewhere evidently
needs some different permissions.

I think we're going to look into a different virtualization product -- at
this point I think we figure better tools and support is probably worth the
cost.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Problem Adding Server Hosts to SCVMM

fwiw,

If a possible cost option is okay, they calling Microsoft product
support may get you what you want...

This newsgroup is just peer support only...

Good idea, we may look into that.

BTW, I don't mean to slight anyone's efforts on this newsgroup -- everyone
has been cordial and I appreciate their efforts.

No problem, I understand the frustration! Just trying to point you to

Re: Problem Adding Server Hosts to SCVMM

One thing that you might want to try if you are still looking into this is to add the computer that you are using to access the SCVMM with in the permissions. Give the computer account full control and that should do it.
