Best P2V Option

I am planning to virtualize approximately 9 physical servers into Hyper-V,
and am curious about what peolpe recommend as the best P2V options that they
have worked with. And and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Re: Best P2V Option

I've used Acronis, and it works, but I'd suspect it would be a bit slow for
9 machines. I haven't had much time to play with the current beta of SCVMM,
but it is reputed to work for this. If so, that would probably be my first
shot, especially with nine machines to do. I was very impressed with the
first version of SCVMM, and will probably be implementing it here just as
soon as it releases...

Re: Best P2V Option

Thanks Charlie. These do not all need to be done at one time, so I might
look at the Acronis solution.

As for SCVMM, do you know if the current beta release that is available for
download works with the full version of Hyper-V that is now available, or
does it only work for the final RC candidate?

Also, anyone else have any recommendations on what has worked for them?
Thanks again.

Re: Best P2V Option

John -
You may want to look at this as well concerning the SCVMM 2008 Beta.....many
of us are still getting the same error and have heard nothing from Microsoft.

Re: Best P2V Option

It is supposed to work with the RTM version of Hyper-V (there was a separate
download that came out a bit after the first beta/CTP release that was
required, but that covered both the RC and the RTM.). As I said - I honestly
haven't had time to play with it, so at this point, I'm waiting until the
RTM is available, which should be shortly.
