Virtual Server 2005 w/ 2008 Server

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 and have installed Windows Virtual Server 2005.
I downloaded 2008 Server Core x86 Enterprise and have successfully
configured/started it.

However, when I go to remote control it - after I sign on I get a blank
background with a command prompt. No start menu, no background icons, nothing
except the command prompt. I can ctrl-alt-del and get the shut down/task mgr
menu but other than that it's completely dead.

Any ideas what I can do?

Re: Virtual Server 2005 w/ 2008 Server

2008 Server core never has a start menu or background icons, the
command prompt is all you get.

Welcome to the new Windows Server.<grin>

This is actually completely normal for Server Core. Everything is either
done at the command line, or done via a remote connection with one of the
remote administration tools after you've configured Server Core to allow
remote administration.

You might find the following useful:

Or, start over and select the regular Windows Server 2008 instead.
