| | Cant ping virtual server guests from the host machine; VS guest cr I'm running VS 2005 on x64 2003.. frequently, as of late, despite no indications of issues in the event viewer.. i run into times where i lose the ability to even ping the guest OS's, even from the same host machine.. I can log into the VS console just fine.. even click on the guests and poke around inside them, but all connectivity seems dead.. Ill try to then stop and start the VS service.. it will get hung up on the last one it saves the state on.. my only recourse is to reboot the whole host machine.. and frequently even when it reboots, i cant ping the host from another machine (or at least i think this was also the case).. i pulled the network cable from the host machine and back in and suddenly it worked, though even before this, i could ping say at least the internet from the host machine.. but now host to host ping would work (or so i think this is the case).. so its almost 2 part here, if this second part is accurate? I did receive this error message when trying to stop the virtual server service: (a bunch of these representing each VS): VM not powered up. Device uninitialized (then this error): Structured exception occurred on an undetermined or a global thread. Has anyone ever had this sort of communication issue before? Also.. prior to this, one of my VS machines did show up in VS event viewer.. it said something to the effect of, this VS hasnt responded in awhile it may have crashed (which apparently it did).. Thanks |

| | Re: Cant ping virtual server guests from the host machine; VS guest cr How many VMs do you have connecting to a single NIC? When I've seen issues like this, it's most often been just too many VMs tied to the same NIC. Really, the overhead of the emulated virtual NIC in Virtual Server is quite high, and it can easily get overloaded. Having separate physical NICs for each VM or at most a couple of VMs, is a lot better way to go. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "markm75" <markm75@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:82FE2605-F873-45DF-B6CE-4962EF3BDE0B@xxxxxx Quote: > I'm running VS 2005 on x64 2003.. frequently, as of late, despite no > indications of issues in the event viewer.. i run into times where i lose > the > ability to even ping the guest OS's, even from the same host machine.. > > I can log into the VS console just fine.. even click on the guests and > poke > around inside them, but all connectivity seems dead.. > > Ill try to then stop and start the VS service.. it will get hung up on the > last one it saves the state on.. my only recourse is to reboot the whole > host > machine.. and frequently even when it reboots, i cant ping the host from > another machine (or at least i think this was also the case).. i pulled > the > network cable from the host machine and back in and suddenly it worked, > though even before this, i could ping say at least the internet from the > host > machine.. but now host to host ping would work (or so i think this is the > case).. so its almost 2 part here, if this second part is accurate? > > I did receive this error message when trying to stop the virtual server > service: > > > (a bunch of these representing each VS): > VM not powered up.
