| | MS Virtual Server 2005 OS same license as host computer? I'd like to set-up Microsoft's Virtual Server 2005 on my PC but as I understand, you need to install an operating system on the resulting virtual machine. My PC (the host computer) is running XP Professional. Can I install that same exact copy of XP on the virtual machine, or does it have to be a totally different copy, with a unique license? |

| | Re: MS Virtual Server 2005 OS same license as host computer? So, for the sake of clarification, I do need to separate operating systems. I guess that accounts for Microsoft's generosity in making Virtual Server 2005 free. Does the OS on the virtual macjine have to be XP Professional? Could it be XP home edition or below? There is no correlation between what you're running on the host and what you can run as a VM. They are independent of each other. http://vpc.visualwin.com for a list of OSes that will work on VPC/VS2005 -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ I do not work for Microsoft. |
